Hello board.
I have not yet posted any topics, but I need some assistance/help, I am running a Windows 7 64-bit, Dell E Latitude 600 laptop.
For some reason I cannot get my internal speakers to play jaws, or window sounds, the only way I'm able to use my system is to plug an earbud headset into the ear. Jack to get any sounds.
I would love some assistance/help with this.
I can't give you specific instructions because I'm too new to windows/7 myself, but, try this:
press insert+f11 to bring up the jaws system tray dialog.
Arrow down to the speaker settings,
and tab to "right click".
Check out the settings that come up and see if anything there floats your boat.
Win/7 has the capabilities to set volumes for different programs that are running, and there might be something there to help out.
Good luck.
Bob
p.s. welcome to the zone.
Youmight have to change your default soundcard back to...well...the default soundcard. if you need instructions on how to do this; send me a message
Here is how I’d go about fixing your issue. Bob is on the correct track, but I’ll add.
If you use his instructions, open the system tray, type the letter S until you find the speakers.
Press enter.
You will now hear volume mixer. Press enter again to open it.
Use your tab key to go through the different things making sure nothing is checked muted.
Also set the volume all the same, example 50%.
If this doesn’t solve your problem.
Do the exact same thing, but this time instead of opening the volume mixer use your arrow key to find playback devices.
Open this and you’ll see your sound card. If you have more than one, it will be a bit trickery, but if not
Arrow down to select it.
Tab to properties press enter.
Tab until you hear use this device and make sure it is set on that. Tab to okay.
Now if you have 2 cards you’ll have to figure out the one you need to be the default card.
If one is already set to default chances are you need the other to be the default.
Without sighted help or the use of a USB card, use Jaws to help you with this.
Open Jaws and go to utilities.
Go to sound card and open that
Put Jaws on the different cards to see where it plays.
If you get no sound from Jaws anymore you’ll have to get help.
I have a tool for this, but if you don’t, just get some help.
Once you know the card that works on your speakers, go back and choose it from the directions above. Once you do, you’ll find how to make it default.
If you need more help, please say.
There is also on some Dell computers something called Dell sounds.
This is not accessible, so if you don't get your speakers working the way I suggest, you'll need someone to look in there and check them on.
Hi,
Was fixing an Inspiron 1420, and had the exact same problem. Here's what I recommend to fix it:
This could be a driver; search Google for the right one. What's your model? Dell E600? Then, search that, and then install drivers; that's how I got the speakers to work, but had the exact same issue.
Yes could be drivers.
They can be updated as well. I posted how on another board.
I'd also go directly to Dell, they have a page that has the drivers for all models.
Good call.
